Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Drive change

At Middlesex Health, we value the diversity within our organization and appreciate that each person contributes unique experiences and perspectives to create a vibrant workplace. We strive to create an environment that allows people to be their best because they are empowered to bring their authentic selves to work. We appreciate that different ideas, perspectives and backgrounds create a stronger and safer work environment that achieves the best results possible for our patients.

Middlesex Health’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Steering Committee aims to create a more equitable and inclusive Middlesex Health through achieving health equity and improved health outcomes for the communities we serve, advancing professional development and career opportunities for staff, and assuring fairness and belonging are promoted and supported by our protocols, policies, and environment.

Our Goals

Recruitment Retention and Professional Development

Recruit and retain a diverse workforce and expand our mentorship and scholarship opportunities for all staff. Continue to train staff through a comprehensive diversity equity and inclusion curriculum and measure employee perception around issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Community Engagement

Collaborate with community stakeholders to promote health equity and access to health care, including community-wide collaborations that address social determinants of health.

Cultural Transformation

Celebrate diversity within the organization by creating opportunities for open discussion and dialogue around diversity, equity and inclusion, strengthen policies to ensure that staff and patients uphold Middlesex Health’s commitment to diversity, and create greater visibility for people of all backgrounds within the organization.

Health Equity

Provide culturally responsive care that promotes a climate of inclusion for all patients and families, including, but not limited to patients who are socioeconomically disadvantaged, people with limited English proficiency, people who are geographically isolated, people of various religious backgrounds, disability status, all races, ethnicities, and patients who identify as LGBTQIA+. Demonstrate a commitment to fair and equal access to healthcare through community partnerships and using internal data to identify and address differences in care based on race and ethnicity.

And that your medical insurance will cover most aspects of your transition that you choose to pursue. And, finally, that your employer is a health system that has been designated for seven consecutive years as a “Leader in LGBTQIA+ Healthcare Equality” by the Human Rights Campaign.
